Now we are going to take the outside frame to the shooting star base. Take four of the 24" pieces that you cut, put them together to form a square. If everything looks okay, go ahead and glue
Now take the 4 way you just made with the 3/4" snap-on tees on the ends and snap it into the square frame.
Next we are going to build the piece that snaps on to your star and then snaps on to you stand. Insert and glue the 1 1/4" x 3/4" reducer. Now take the 2" x 3/4" piece and glue it into the reducer. Then slide the 3/4" snap on tee over the 2"x 3/4" length. Do not glue this until you have the star and stand up on the roof. You need to set the star angle to the angle of your roof. I recommend having someone glue it while you are on the ground looking up and making sure the angle looks right. |
Take a 1 1/4" x 3' piece of schedule 40 pvc pipe and insert in into the 5 way cross. You do not need to glue this, just make sure it is pressed all the way in. |

Cross piece to attach to the back of a Shooting Star |
Now we are going to make a 4 way cross that will mount on the back of a Shooting. Take 4-10" pieces of 3/4" pvc pipe and glue it into the 4 way.
Then take and lay it across the star as seen in the picture and use strong plastic ties to hold it on. |

Snap the 1 1/4" to 3/4"snap-on tee piece made earlier to the 4 way we just attached to the Star. Then snap the 1 1/4" end on to the 1 1/4" pole. Now you are ready to put it on your roof. Remember do not glue the part that swivels until the star is on the roof and turned to a position (angle) that looks right from the ground.
Notes: Place sandbags on the stand to hold down in case you get high winds. If you know you are going to have a windy night you can go up on the roof and snap the stars off and lay them in the rooof, then place them back in position when the wind is gone. |

This is a sample of a stand that you can make for a shooting star as it comes off of your roof.It uses 3/4" grey electrical pvc as its base. You can use the square frames that are built for the shooting stars on the roof. The stands on the ground will need four guy wires. I recommend putting a hose clamp about 2/3 up the pole. The hose clamp is to hold the guy wires to the pvc pipe.
Your first poll coming off the roof will probably start at 10' and reduce as it gets closer to hitting the ground. |
Each Star can be from 5' to 7' apart.
Final Notes: Make sure you paint everything black so it will disapear in the night. |
